Overview
Fort Patiko, also known as Baker's Fort, sits among granite outcrops north of Gulu. The site was used by slave traders, and in 1872 the British explorer Sir Samuel Baker established a fort here as part of efforts to stop the slave trade in the region.
Today it's a national monument. Its stone walls, moat and granite viewpoints tell a powerful story about northern Uganda's history.
