Overview

Budongo Forest Reserve covers about 825 km² of moist tropical forest on the southern edge of the Murchison Falls Conservation Area, managed by the National Forestry Authority. It's the largest mahogany forest in East Africa, with trees more than 60 m tall.

The forest is home to hundreds of chimpanzees, and has been the site of long-term chimp research at the Budongo Conservation Field Station since 1990. It's also one of Uganda's best birding forests, especially along the famous 'Royal Mile'.
