A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994 — the Rwenzoris are Africa's tallest mountain range and one of the few places on the continent with permanent snow and glaciers on the equator.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority manages twelve wildlife reserves alongside its ten national parks. All twelve are covered below (Matheniko and Bokora share one entry). Some are well set up for visitors; others are remote, with very little tourism infrastructure.

Kyambura Wildlife Reserve

Bushenyi District
What's special
Adjoins Queen Elizabeth National Park and shares its Kyambura Gorge chimpanzee community, often called the "Valley of the Apes."
