Buffalo Springs National Reserve

Across the river from Samburu, sharing its wildlife and drier, semi-arid character.

How to get there

Adjoining Samburu National Reserve, reached the same way.

What to find

The same arid-country specialist species as Samburu, with fewer visitors.

Overview

Buffalo Springs National Reserve lies on the south bank of the Ewaso Ng'iro River, directly opposite Samburu. The two reserves work as a single ecosystem.

It's named after its clear springs, and has the same northern specialists as Samburu: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. It's usually quieter than its better-known neighbour.
